6 days agoArizona Diamondbacks rookie left-hander Blake Walston will receive the start on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival San Francisco Giants. This will be Walston's third MLB appearance and just his second major-league start after making his big-league debut on May 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his first start on May 26 against the Miami Marlins, he tossed 4 2/3 scoreless frames with one walk and four strikeouts to pick up a no-decision. The 22-year-old southpaw could see another start after this one if he fares well again, as the D-backs currently have Zac Gallen (hamstring), Merrill Kelly (shoulder) and Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) all on the injured list. Walston is the club's No. 25 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and will have a pretty middling matchup against the Gigantes in his second career start.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoDetroit Tigers second base prospect Hao-Yu Lee is currently riding an impressive eight-game hitting streak. In this stretch, the 21-year-old has held a .417/.436/.778 line with four long balls and ten RBI. In fact, Lee has only gone hitless three times in the past 17 games. Since getting off to a slow start in April with a .257 AVG and .378 SLG through April, Lee has posted an improved .267 AVG and .485 SLG in May. MLB Pipeline ranks Lee as the number 13th overall prospect in the Detroit system and projects him to reach the major leagues next season. Lee could be worth stashing in dynasty leagues if he carries this strong production into Triple-A later this summer.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoThe Toronto Blue Jays announced that right-hander Trevor Richards will serve as the team's opener on Tuesday night against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, with right-hander Bowden Francis (forearm) expected to get the bulk of the innings in relief. Francis will be activated off the 15-day injured list for the assignment. Richards tossed 3 1/3 innings of relief last week against the Chicago White Sox and has gone more than an inning in seven of his 25 relief appearances this year, but fantasy managers looking for a streamer should still avoid the 31-year-old veteran. His last appearance came on Sunday against the Pirates. Francis, 28, has been out since late April with forearm tendonitis and had an ugly 8.59 ERA and 1.70 WHIP with 17 K's and seven walks in 14 2/3 innings for Toronto before going on the IL. Francis will be on a limited pitch count and should be avoided for streaming purposes.Source: Toronto Star - Mike Wilner
6 days agoMilwaukee Brewers right-hander Colin Rea will work behind an opener on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies on the road. It's unclear who the Brewers will use as the opener after going with Jared Koenig on Monday. Rea, 33, worked as the team's bulk reliever behind Koenig on May 25 against the Boston Red Sox and allowed two earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts in 5 2/3 frames in a win. In his last outing on May 30 against the Chicago Cubs, Rea had a no-decision while working 5 1/3 frames and allowing one earned run on one walk and five K's. Rea has had a solid campaign thus far for the Brew Crew, going 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 42 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings over 11 outings (10 starts), but the matchup on Tuesday against the Phils on the road is one to fade him in.Source: Bally Sports Wisconsin - Sophia Minnaert
6 days agoThe Minnesota Twins officially reinstated infielder Royce Lewis (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Edouard Julien to Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move. Lewis suffered a serious strained right quadriceps muscle on Opening Day but is now ready to return after 10 weeks of rehab. The Twins haven't released their starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees in the Bronx, but Lewis should be in it, and fantasy managers should be ready to throw him right back in there. The 24-year-old power/speed asset went 4-for-23 with eight strikeouts and a walk in 24 plate appearances during his six-game minor-league rehab assignment for St. Paul. Injuries have kept Lewis from reaching his true potential since he was the first overall pick in 2017, but the upside is still very high. Scoop him up immediately if he's somehow available in your league.Source: Minnesota Twins
6 days agoNew York Mets starting pitching prospect Kade Morris was recently promoted to High-A and has logged three strong starts. Across 15 ⅓ innings, the 21-year-old holds a 1.17 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and a 5:12 BB:K ratio through his first three starts at High-A Brooklyn. Morris opened the season with Single-A and tossed 34 ⅔ innings with a 3.63 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and an 11:38 BB:K ratio. The former third-round pick has been progressing through the minor leagues rather quickly as he logged just 37 total innings at Single-A over the past two seasons and has already moved up to High-A. Currently, Morris is outside of the top 30 Mets prospects in MLB Pipeline, but that is sure to change over the course of the summer, given his current production.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoToronto Blue Jays first base prospect Spencer Horwitz posted a stellar .375/.468/.650 line through his final 11 games of the month to cap off a productive May. Across the entire month, the 26-year-old posted a strong .299/.395/.439 line with 16 RBI and a 15:22 BB:K ratio. Horwitz made his major league debut and performed well across a small 15-game sample size with a .256 AVG. Over the past three seasons, the Radford product logged 205 games at the Triple-A level and should be expected to have an extended opportunity in Toronto this summer. The number 16th-ranked prospect in the Toronto system could be worth adding in AL-only leagues when given the promotion.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoSan Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano was banned on Tuesday by Major League Baseball after he was caught gambling on MLB games. According to MLB, Marcano placed 231 bets related to MLB games yet won only 4.3% of the bets. He has been on the injured list all year as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered in 2023 while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Once considered a top prospect, Marcano appeared in 149 games with the Padres (2021) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-2023), hitting .217/.269/.320 with five homers, 34 RBI and 41 runs scored. Other suspensions for unrelated violations of MLB's sports betting policy include Michael Kelly, Jay Groome, Jose Rodriguez, and Andrew Saalfrank, who were not banned like Marcano but all suspended for a year.Source: Jeff Passan, ESPN
6 days agoThe Seattle Mariners came to terms with pitcher Matt Bowman to a minor-league deal that will turn into a $1 million contract if he makes the big league roster. Bowman was designated for assignment Saturday by the Arizona Diamondbacks after he recorded an 8.10 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP over four appearances. The Mariners will be the third team for Bowman this season, as he was designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins on April 30. The 33-year-old has a career (7-13) record with a 4.19 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 195 relief appearances in six seasons. Bowman is not on the fantasy radar and can be left on the waiver wire in most leagues. Source: Jon Heyman, NY Post
6 days agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado provided the team's offense in Monday's 2-1 loss at the Los Angeles Angels with his first-inning homer. Machado's dinger was his sixth of the season, but it was his first longball since he went deep in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 3. Fantasy managers hope Monday's homer is a swing in the right direction for Machado, who is slashing .242/.307/.342 with 27 runs, 31 RBI, and four stolen bases over 244 plate appearances. He is currently on pace for just 15 homers, which would be the fewest of his career since he hit 12 homers over 82 games with the Baltimore Orioles in 2014. Source: ESPN.com
6 days agoLos Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson had a no-decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres. Anderson pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run, walking three, and striking out two. The 34-year-old did log his eighth quality start. He lowered his ERA to 2.37 over 12 starts, tenth-best among starters, and a 1.13 WHIP despite a 5-5 record. The Angels lack quality starters for fantasy players to consider, yet Anderson continues to be a steady yet unspectacular option. Anderson will look to build off Monday's outing in his next start against the Houston Astros on Saturday. Source: ESPN.com
6 days agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Jeimer Candelario launched his seventh home run in Monday's 13-3 rout at the Colorado Rockies. Candelario hit a two-run blast off Ryan Felter in the third inning and finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored. He has been on a tear of late as four of his last eight hits (three doubles, one homer) have gone for extra bases, lifting his numbers to .233/.304/.435 with 23 RBI and 21 runs scored. Candelario is more of a deeper league option, but his recent power surge makes him an interesting fantasy option in standard 12-team leagues. Source: ESPN.com
6 days agoHouston Astros infield prospect Zach Dezenzo (wrist) was sent on his rehab assignment on Monday. The team's No. 4 prospect will begin his assignment at the Rookie-level Florida Complex League. In 2023, Dezenzo split his time between High-A Asheville and Double-A Corpus Christ where he combined to hit .304 with 18 homers, 61 RBI and 22 stolen bases. Dezenzo has shown good pop in his bat throughout his career, but he has also struggled with off-speed pitches and plate discipline. These are issues that could hopefully be corrected on the farm and if they do, Dezenzo could be an option to replace free-agent to be Alex Bregman at third base in 2025. He remains an option in only dynasty leagues for now.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoHouston Astros general manager Dana Brown spoke to the media on Monday about the club's No.1 prospect, outfielder Jacob Melton (wrist), who has been sidelined since May 22 with a tweaked wrist. Brown said that he expects the 23-year-old to be back within a week or so. Prior to his injury, Melton was hitting .268 with five homers and 24 RBI for Double-A Corpus Christi. Despite being the club's top prospect, Melton is likely to get time in Triple-A before making his big-league debut as soon as this summer or next season. For now, dynasty leagues hold the most amount of value for Melton.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan (shoulder) began his rehab assignment in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday. Ryan has been sidelined on the 60-day injured list with right shoulder fatigue, but looked dominant in his return to the mound. Ryan tossed two scoreless innings with one walk and five strikeouts. It was a nice display for the club's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline. In his previous two seasons on the farm, Ryan has worked mostly as a starting pitcher with a career-high 104 1/3 innings in 2023. The Dodgers are likely to bring him back slowly and he could be an option out of the bullpen this summer, but long-term, Ryan projects as a starting pitcher. As one of the better arms in a strong Dodgers system, Ryan remains a name for dynasty league managers to consider past this season.Source: MLB Pipeline
