5 days agoIn eight games in June, Houston Astros outfield prospect Pedro Leon has at least a hit in seven of those games and has multi-hit efforts in two. Leon has two homers and four RBI in the month. The Cuban has shown off plus power all year with 12 homers and 55 RBI in 58 games at Triple-A. The strikeouts are a bit of a concern (he has 12 strikeouts in June and has yet to draw a walk this month). The No. 26 prospect in the Astros system, Leon has put together a nice season at Sugar Land and could be knocking on the door for a chance to help Houston at the big-league level. The power potential alone could make him a helpful waiver wire add if he does get the call, and if he can improve the plate discipline a bit, he could be a big-time fantasy contributor at some point this season.Source: MILB.com
5 days agoMilwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy isn't expecting left-handed pitching prospect Robert Gasser (elbow) to be able to return this year as he prepares to receive a third opinion on his left flexor strain. It's a tough break for a team that has already lost Brandon Woodruff and Wade Miley to season-ending injuries. Gasser, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, had gone 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in his first five major-league starts after missing the end of spring training with bone spurs in his throwing elbow. The 25-year-old southpaw last pitched on June 1 and reported tightness and soreness the next day. One doctor has already recommended reconstruction surgery, which would keep Gasser out the rest of this year and most likely at least half of the 2025 campaign. Gasser deserves to be stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues, but managers in redraft formats can probably cut bait at this point.Source: The Associated Press - Steve Megargee
5 days agoHouston Astros shortstop prospect Brice Matthews has recently returned to the diamond after recovering from a back injury that kept him sidelined for a month. Since returning on May 25, the Nebraska product has tallied at least one hit in every game and has been especially dominant as of late. Since June 1, the young shortstop has launched six long balls with nine RBI and five stolen bases and is riding a stellar .483/.559/.1.138 slash line. This is highlighted by a two-home run game on June 5. The number three-ranked prospect in the Houston system has clearly put his injury behind him and is proving that he is more than ready to move up to Double-A. Matthews has played just 17 games at the High-A level this summer, but with his current production, he should be joining Double-A Corpus Christi fairly soon. The former 28th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is developing into one of the best shortstop prospects in baseball and should be closely monitored by dynasty managers all summer.Source: MiLB.com
5 days agoChicago Cubs infield prospect Matt Shaw started off June with a hit in each of the first five games of the month but is hitless over the last three contests. The 22-year-old has a homer and three RBI in June with three stolen bases. The No. 3 prospect in the Cubs system has turned in a solid season so far in his second campaign of professional ball. The first-round pick out of Maryland has six home runs, 24 RBI, and 15 stolen bases at Double-A this season. His .225 average and .711 OPS leaves a bit to be desired, but he has shown plus speed as he adjusts to Double-A pitching. It will be worth monitoring Shaw the rest of the way this season. A promotion to Triple-A by the end of the year could signify that he could reach the majors by 2025. Shaw offers plenty of upside and should factor into the Cubs' big-league plans in the near future.Source: MILB.com
5 days agoOakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom's second homer of the season was the sole highlight of Monday's 6-1 loss at the San Diego Padres. Soderstrom went deep off of Dylan Cease in the top of the second inning, his first since he homered against the Texas Rangers on May 8 in his first game after being called up. The rookie is hitting .200/.324/.350, however, Soderstrom is hitting .250/.368/.438 with an .806 OPS in 16 at-bats this month. Soderstrom is a promising source of power, and if the A's continue to be patient, he is capable of production that fantasy managers should keep an eye on as the season goes on in deeper leagues.Source: ESPN.com
5 days agoMilwaukee Brewers closer Trevor Megill recorded his 10th save in Monday's 3-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Megill needed just 11 pitches (eight for strikes) while allowing a hit over one inning and hasn't allowed an earned run in six of his last eight outings while lowering his ERA to 2.00. Megill has struck out 24 batters and walked four while allowing just one home run over 18 innings. Fantasy managers have complete confidence Megill will continue to deliver quality numbers each time the Brewers call on him to close out games, although he'll eventually return to a setup role whenever Devin Williams (back) can make his season debut.Source: ESPN.com
5 days agoSeattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh launched a walk-off grand slam to lift the team to an 8-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Raleigh turned on a 2-0 pitch from White Sox pitcher Jordan Leasure for his 12th dinger for the American League West division leaders. He is hitting .206/.287/.402 with 39 RBI and 26 runs scored on the season. Fantasy managers have to endure the low batting average for Raleigh's power, as he is on pace for 26 homers and 93 RBI, numbers that make Raleigh one of the more productive players at a position light on quality.Source: Aweful Announcing via X
5 days agoSan Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison notched his seventh quality start after he allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Houston Astros. Harrison scattered four hits and did not allow a walk while striking out three despite recording a no-decision. The promising youngster has been up and down all season with a 4-3 record and a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 68 strikeouts and 22 walks over 77 1/3 innings. After managing the Astros, Harrison has a much better matchup against the Angels on Sunday, something fantasy managers (especially DFS gamers) should keep in mind.Source: ESPN.com
5 days agoToronto Blue Jays third base prospect Damiano Palmegiano (undisclosed) has been hitting well on his rehab assignment for Single-A Dunedin. Palmegiano has been on the 7-day injured list with an undisclosed injury since May 22 and began his rehab assignment on June 1. In his recovery, Palmegiano has gone 7-for-21 with a pair of homers. For Triple-A Buffalo this season, the third baseman hit .228 with seven homers and 23 RBI. With the Blue Jays season going up and down and rumors about potential big-league players being dealt, it would seem to reason that Palmegiano would be a potential replacement in that scenario. For now, Palmegiano can be left on the waiver wire, but he would be worth a flier in redraft leagues with the right opportunity.Source: Milb.com
5 days agoDetroit Tigers top prospect Jackson Jobe (hamstring) remains sidelined with a left hamstring strain he suffered on May 1. The 21-year-old right-hander recently overtook Max Clark as the No. 1 prospect in the Tigers system. In five games at Double-A Erie this season, Jobe is (0-1) with a 2.16 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 24 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings pitched. He was still getting ramped up before his injury and has yet to go more than four innings in a start this season. If he returns and shows full health, a promotion to Triple-A by the end of the year could be in the cards. He has the look of a future ace and is one of the top pitchers to stash for dynasty managers.Source: MILB.com
5 days agoHouston Astros rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti came within an out of a quality start in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning loss at the San Francisco Giants. Arrighetti struck out six batters over 5 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks, lowering his ERA to 5.33. The rookie's ERA is deceptive, as Arrighetti has sported a 3.19 ERA with 36 strikeouts over 31 innings while allowing just one home run with a 3-1 record over his last six starts. Fantasy managers should strongly consider adding Arrighetti if the right-hander is still available on waiver wires.Source: ESPN.com
5 days agoCleveland Guardians prospect Chase DeLauter (toe) was placed on the 7-day injured list by Double-A Akron with turf toe in his right foot. The outfielder suffered the injury on May 28 in his first game back from missing time with a fractured foot. DeLauter has managed to play just 17 games this season and has hit .194 with a home run and three RBI. The Guardians' No. 1 overall prospect has had a bit of a lost season so far with the injuries. He showed what he could do last season in the minors, hitting .355 across three levels of the minors in his first season of professional ball. The James Madison product still has plenty of potential, but the injuries are troublesome.Source: Guardians Prospective
5 days agoMiami Marlins outfield prospect Victor Mesa Jr. has been putting together a strong season for Triple-A Jacksonville thus far. Over his first 53 games for Jacksonville, Mesa has hit .273 with 10 homers, 37 RBI and four stolen bases to go along with an .811 OPS. The 22-year-old out of Cuba has continued to show that his power game is legit after going yard for 18 homers in 2023 for Double-A Pensacola. Mesa swings the bat from the left side and is good at spreading the ball all across the field with his quick bat speed. Although he could use better plate discipline, Mesa is looking prepared for the next step and that could come this season with the Marlins likely to entertain offers on their current outfielders. Mesa would be an intriguing pickup in redraft leagues pending a promotion, but his best value is in dynasty formats.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoMiami Marlins outfield prospect Jakob Marsee has been having a tough season in Double-A. Marsee, the club's No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was acquired from the San Diego Padres as part of the Luis Arraez deal earlier this season, but no matter the affiliation, he has struggled this season. Between both club's and their Double-A affiliations this season, Marsee has hit a combined .182 with five homers, 13 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Marsee has a very patient eye at the plate which leads to good contact, but he doesn't offer much power. At the present time, Marsee is best served as a watch-list candidate in dynasty leagues with MLB Pipeline estimating him to reach the big leagues in 2025.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoTampa Bay Rays shortstop prospect Carson Williams has been having a good season for Double-A Montgomery, but has been mired in a slump. Over his last 10 games, Williams is 7-for-40 with one RBI and 16 strikeouts. It should not be the biggest worry for fans of Williams as he has been having a good season overall with a .286 batting average that is accompanied by eight homers, 23 RBI and 15 stolen bases. His biggest flaw has been striking out 60 times in 189 at-bats. Despite his recent cold streak, Williams' strong season should put him on the path to see a promotion to Triple-A this season with a path to the big leagues as soon as 2025. The club's first-round pick in 2021 should be rostered in dynasty leagues and is a name for redraft managers to remember in 2025 drafts.Source: MLB.com
