6 hours agoSeattle Mariners first base/third base prospect Tyler Locklear is being promoted to the major league roster as Ty France (heel) is dealing with an injury. France was not in Saturday's lineup and manager Scott Servais did express his concern about the severity of the injury in a postgame interview. While France has not officially been placed on the injured list as of yet, he may miss some time out of caution and Locklear's promotion seems to point toward that. Locklear began the season with Double-A and posted a strong .291/.401/.532 line with eight long balls and 26 RBI. He was recently moved up to Triple-A Tacoma on May 28 and has held an excellent .300/.417/.475 through his first ten games at that level. Locklear is worth adding in deeper mixed leagues and should be rostered in all AL-only formats.Source: Ryan Divish
6 hours agoWashington Nationals third baseman Nick Senzel went 3-for-3 at the plate on Saturday with two doubles, a home run, and a walk to lead the Nationals to a victory over the Atlanta Braves. Senzel hit his first double in the second inning and came around to score off a CJ Abrams single. Then, in the fourth, the 28-year-old knocked his second double of the afternoon, which scored Luis Garcia Jr. To cap off the day, he launched a two-run shot in the sixth and scored Keibert Ruiz to put the game out of reach. Senzel will take a solid .243/.352/.441 line with six home runs into Sunday's series finale and will continue to be a solid third base/outfield option all season and is worth deploying in favorable matchups in DFS.Source: MLB.com
6 hours agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman threw a complete game shutout against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. He allowed five hits, one free pass, and struck out a season-high ten batters. This was an excellent outing for Gausman, who was riding a poor 5.60 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through his previous five starts. While the 33-year-old has yet to live up to his high draft capital, this is an encouraging sign for the ace, as he could be turning things around. However, he has seen his K rate plummet from an excellent 31.1% last summer to a poor 22.7% this season and needs to continue to raise this number to be a top pitching option for the remainder of the summer. The LSU product is lined up to face the Cleveland Guardians next week and will hope to keep this momentum rolling.Source: MLB.com
7 hours agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Taj Bradley bounced back on Saturday with five innings of one-run ball against his division rival Baltimore Orioles. He struck out nine and allowed just three hits and one free pass, which is a great sign, as the young right-hander allowed nine runs and nine hits against this same Baltimore team last week. The 23-year-old has allowed two runs or less in three starts out of five he has made this season but still has inflated ratios due to his other poor outings. Despite his blow-up starts, Bradley is still striking out batters at an elite 28.6% mark, which is significantly above average. Bradley is scheduled to make his next start on May 13 in a favorable matchup against the struggling Chicago Cubs.Source: MLB.com
7 hours agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish turned in a gem on Saturday. He tossed six shutout frames, allowed just one hit, and struck out nine. He did not allow a walk. His only mistake came off a Yandy Diaz leadoff single in the bottom of the first. After Diaz, he went on to retire 18 batters consecutively. The 27-year-old now sits with a strong 2.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 14:49 BB:K ratio. Bradish did not make his season debut until May 2 due to an elbow injury. He is tentatively lined up to face the Atlanta Braves on Thursday and should be considered a must-start option going forward.Source: MLB.com
7 hours agoColorado Rockies starting shortstop Ezequiel Tovar went 4-for-4 at the plate on Saturday with two home runs to power the Rockies to victory. He got things started with an RBI single in the first, which scored Charlie Blackmon. Then, in the sixth, he launched a solo shot to extend the Colorado lead. In the following frame, he hit his second round-tripper of the day, which scored outfielder Brenton Doyle. Tovar has performed very well this season and has been a valuable fantasy contributor with a solid .294/.326/.487 line with ten home runs and four stolen bases and is looking like an absolute steal compared to his ADP in the offseason. Tovar will continue to be an excellent shortstop option all season and has 20-20 upside.Source: MLB.com
8 hours agoColorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers will be placed on the 10-day IL, per manager Bud Black, with a hamstring strain. In a corresponding move, the team will recall top prospect Adael Amador from AA. Amador will join the team in St. Louis and is expected to play second base in Rodger's absence. Amador is the team's top prospect and should be expected to receive regular playing time. The young second baseman is only hitting .194 but has seven home runs, 24 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 170 plate appearances. There is no estimate on how much time Rodgers might miss.Source: Thomas Harding on X
9 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno was scratched from Saturday's lineup with an apparent illness. Tucker Barnhart will start in his spot and will hit ninth. The 24-year-old will be available off the bench if needed. Fantasy managers shouldn't worry about Moreno's future status, especially given his availability off the bench for tonight's game. Moreno had been having a solid start to June going 6-22 with a homer and three RBI. Expect him to be available in the lineup over the weekend. DFS managers will want to avoid adding Barnhart to their lineups if tempted as the 33-year-old vet is hitting for just a .148 BA this season.Source: Alex Weiner
9 hours agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Colt Keith was removed during the top of the third inning in Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers with left knee discomfort. He was replaced by Andy Ibanez. Keith collided with outfielder Akil Baddoo on a pop up in the outfield and was removed after the play. Baddoo was able to remain in the game before getting pinch-hit for in the fifth. The team has not put out any other information in terms of Keith's injury and should be considered day-to-day until more information is released. Keith had been having a subpar rookie season, hitting for just a .549 OPS on the season. Should he miss any time, fantasy managers should aim to replace him with Ibanez, who's hitting for a somewhat more productive .687 OPS.Source: Evan Petzold
9 hours agoNew York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto (forearm) will likely be out for at least a few more days before returning to the lineup according to Yankees' manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees' manager said it's killing Soto not to be out there but that he sees the bigger picture. Soto was having yet another MVP caliber season alongside fellow AL MVP winner and likely 2024 candidate Aaron Judge. Assuming there are no other setbacks, Soto and his 1.027 OPS will either return to the Yankees lineup during the middle of their series against the Kansas City Royals or, if they elect to give him more time to rest, he could return on Friday in Boston against the Red Sox. Fantasy managers looking for a short term fill should look at Trent Grisham, who started in right field Friday night in Soto's place and is in the Yankees' starting lineup again on Saturday.Source: Max Goodman
10 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has been scratched from Saturday's lineup and will miss Arizona's contest against the San Diego Padres. Marte said that his lower back is just a little stiff and he expects to be back in the lineup on Sunday. The switch-hitter tweaked his back after a swing in the top of the ninth on Friday but it appears that the stiffness isn't too serious right now and Marte should be considered day-to-day. Blaze Alexander will be starting at second base in Marte's place and will be hitting sixth. Fantasy managers don't need to take any action but DFS managers may want to consider sneaking Alexander into their lineup as the 24-year-old is hitting for an .880 OPS over the last seven days.Source: Steve Gilbert
10 hours agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Ryan Weathers was placed on the 15-day IL with a left index finger strain, the club announced on Saturday. Weathers was removed from Friday night's game in the top of the third inning after his finger was noticeably irritating him. The lefty had started to turn his season around after a somewhat rough start, notching a 3.55 ERA in 13 starts. With Miami being well out of the playoff race, it's likely that the Marlins will want Weathers to take his time in his recovery so he can come back right. Fantasy managers looking to replace the lefty on their roster will want to look towards Roddery Munoz who was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday and will start Saturday night against the Cleveland Guardians.Source: Miami Marlins
10 hours agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner has been diagnosed with a small fracture in his hand according to Cubs manager Craig Counsell. Doctors have noted that they are comfortable with him playing if the pain and swelling subsides. The Cubs will make a decision in the coming days about whether or not the 27-year-old should hit the IL. As of now Hoerner should be considered day-to-day. Hoerner has hit for a league average 100 OPS+ in 2024, though his bat has been rather cold since May. Fantasy managers looking for a short term replacement for Hoerner should target David Bote, who has now started at second base for the Cubs two games in a row.Source: Maddie Lee
13 hours agoSeattle Mariners first baseman Ty France (undisclosed) has been scratched from Saturday's starting lineup against the hosting Kansas City Royals. The 29-year-old went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, an RBI, a run scored, and a hit-by-pitch in Friday's loss to the Royals but seemingly felt some discomfort while doing infield drills prior to Saturday afternoon's contest. It's been a nice season so far for France, who is hitting .251 with seven homers and a .732 OPS across 61 appearances, production that grades out 16% above the league average, as per his 116 wRC+. It's also worth noting that France has increased his walk rate to 8% this season (versus his 6.5% career average), but his 23.6% strikeout rate sits well above his 18.2% career mark. He remains a bubble first baseman given his lack of power at a corner-infield spot.Source: Ryan Divish
13 hours agoThe Colorado Rockies are promoting infield prospect Adael Amador to the big leagues on Saturday. The 21-year-old is being summoned from Double-A Hartford without a Triple-A game under his belt. The No. 32-ranked prospect in baseball, as per MLB Pipeline, has had a solid, yet unspectacular year with the Yard Goats. Amador is hitting just .194 with seven homers across 46 games but also has swiped 22 bases and has walked at a hefty 15.8% clip, a figure well beyond his years considering the wealth of top pitching at the Double-A level. Amador doesn't appear to be in the club's starting lineup for Saturday's afternoon contest with the St. Louis Cardinals but dynasty league managers will surely be intrigued by his promotion as he likely gets into the lineup on a daily basis moving forward.Source: Francys Romero
