Nolan Schanuel Taking Swings
Nolan Schanuel (wrist) hit off a tee on Sunday and progressed to swinging in the batting cage on Monday. Schanuel, on the 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his left wrist since Aug. 24, looks on track to return sometime this month. In his second full season in the majors, the 23-year-old has hit .266/.355/.383 with 10 homers, 49 RBI, 61 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 535 plate appearances. Although that production is closer to average than great, the Schanuel-less Angels have downgraded significantly at first base with a Niko Kavadas-Oswald Peraza platoon. Kavadas has hit .100/.217/.100 in 23 trips to the plate. Peraza, acquired from the New York Yankees on July 31, has put together a .157/.212/.249 line over198 plate appearances.
