Noah Syndergaard Plays Catch Saturday
3 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) is playing some catch before the game on Saturday. Syndergaard was shut down for six weeks in late May after having a setback in his recovery from elbow surgery, but this is the first time that he has thrown since that shutdown. It's great news for Thor and the Mets, but the 28-year-old still has plenty of boxes to check off before he becomes an option for the team's rotation and for fantasy managers, potentially some time in September. The Mets could use all the help they can get in a rotation that has been decimated by injuries this year, but they will not rush Syndergaard along. He hasn't pitched since 2019, when he went 10-8 with a 4.28 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 24.5 percent strikeout rate in 197 2/3 innings over 32 starts. Don't expect much from Syndergaard in redraft leagues in 2021 if he returns late in the second half.
