Nats Go With Reliever Holden Powell Among Final Picks
5 years agoThe Washington Nationals selected UCLA pitcher Holden Powell with the 94th overall pick in the third round in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. Following Powell, Washington selected Oklahoma catcher Brady Lindsly in the fourth round and San Jacinto College North lefty pitcher Mitchell Parker in the fifth round. Powell is an attractive late-inning reliever because of his electric fastball-slider combination. He served as his school's closer since his freshman year and recorded 26 saves in his career. Powell could move quickly through the Nats system. The left-handed-hitting Lindsly was the battery-mate of Washington's first-round pick, Cade Cavalli. He's an average receiver with an average arm with a loose swing and great makeup. Parker has a funky, unconventional delivery and mechanics with a low-90s fastball and an above-average curveball. If he can get his mechanics in sync, there's certainly plenty of upside.
