Marco Gonzales To Get Opening Day Nod
5 years agoSeattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that starting pitcher Marco Gonzales will be on the mound for Opening Day, whenever that may be. Major League Baseball has pushed back the start of the regular season at least two weeks due to concerns over the coronavirus, but Gonzales will be on the mound for the first game. In his second full season as a starter for Seattle, Gonzales was 16-13 with a 3.99 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 147 strikeouts in 203 innings over a career-high 34 starts. The southpaw is at the top of the M's rotation, but his low strikeout upside give him a limited fantasy ceiling, and he should be targeted late in mixed league drafts as you round out your rotation. Seattle was originally scheduled to face the Rangers at home on Opening Day on March 26.
