Laviska Shenault Jr. 2020 Outlook: Late Round Afterthought
5 years agoJacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. is a superb athlete with rare size, speed, and strength. Shenault exhibits a gift for operating in traffic. His elite body control, overpowering strength, and soft hands allow him to maneuver around opposing defenses and secure balls mid-air routinely. However, the Colorado wideout will need to sharpen his route running to live up his to potential at the NFL level. Shenault was selected in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in this year’s NFL Draft. The Jaguars depth chart features D.J. Chark Jr., Dede Westbrook, Chris Conley and Keelan Cole, along with Shenault. Following a breakout 2019 season, Chark is the undisputed No. 1 receiver in this offense, but the possibility remains for the second-round pick to ascend to the No. 2 role. Due to the Jaguars’ depth and the run-heavy nature of their offense, it is unlikely that Shenault breaks out in 2020. If Shenault secures the No. 2 receiver role for the Jaguars, he exhibits the upside of a No. 3 fantasy receiver, but the rookie should not be counted on to produce at this level. He is no more than a late-round dart throw in 2020. Shenault is going around pick 228 in the NFFC on average, but fantasy owners are likely to find a more intriguing option for redraft leagues at this price.
