Kris Bryant 2019 Outlook: Expect A Bounce-Back
6 years agoIt's safe to say that the 2018 season did not go quite as planned for Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, as he missed 60 games due to injury and set career-lows in all major categories. He finished with just 13 home runs and 52 RBI, while hitting .272 with a .460 slugging percentage. On the bright side, the performance from last year makes Bryant more of a value pick in 2019 after he was a mid-first round pick last year. As long as Bryant can stay healthy and play at least 145 games, he should finish around 25 home runs with a serious case being made for 100 RBI in a potent Cubs lineup. Speed has never been the name of the game for Bryant, so don't rely on more than 10 steals, despite his career-high sitting at 13 steals from the 2015 season. Still, if Bryant can return to the player he was in 2016 with 39 home runs and 121 RBI or the player he was in 2017 with 29 home runs and 111 RBI then his current average draft position at the end of the third round will be an absolute steal. Health is the key hurdle for Bryant to conquer to return to that offensive output. According to the RotoBaller Rankings, Bryant is listed as the #6 third baseman and the #27 overall player.
