Ketel Marte 2023 MLB Player Outlook: Should Bounce Back In 2023 If He Can Stay Healthy
2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has missed time the last two seasons due to hamstring issues. He was limited to 90 games in 2021 and 137 contests in 2022. The 29-year-old saw his production drop last season, slashing .240/.321/.407 with 12 home runs, 52 RBI, 68 runs, and five stolen bases across 137 games. In 2021, Marte slashed .318/.377/.532 over 374 plate appearances. His wOBA dropped from .375 in 2021 to .317 in 2022. Marte is locked in as Arizona's starting second baseman and should see additional at-bats as the team's designated hitter to help manage his hamstring injuries. He should hit near the top of the order and is expected to improve on a career-low .276 BAIP last season. The days of Marte hitting over .300 with 30 homers are most likely long gone; the former Seattle Mariner should bounce back in 2023 as long he can put his hamstring woes behind him. ATC projections are board with a semi-bounce back for Marte, projecting him with a .268/.337/.438 slash line with 16 homers, 65 RBI, 73 runs, four stolen bases, and a .337 wOBA across 579 plate appearances in 2023. Fantasy managers should buy the dip on Marte, as he should exceed value at his current NFBC ADP of 208 if he can stay healthy.
