Justin Upton Hits In The Batting Cages
3 years agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton (back) hit in the batting cages before the game on Monday against the Boston Red Sox. Upton is starting to swing the bat again after suffering a lower back strain a couple of weeks ago. The 33-year-old veteran slugger had been excelling in the leadoff spot for the Halos, so the timing of his injury was tough on the Angels and fantasy managers. In 24 games in the leadoff spot this year, Upton hit .326 (30-for-92) with five home runs and 14 RBI in 108 plate appearance. He's hitting .247 on the year with 14 home runs, 40 runs, 32 RBI and three steals and should be stashed everywhere. Phil Gosselin has stepped up and gone 8-for-23 (.348) with two home runs and seven RBI in the last two weeks while filling in in left field and has become a valid short-term play in AL-only leagues with Upton hurt.
