Josue De Paula Named All-Star Futures Game MVP
Josue De Paula went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run in the fourth inning of Saturday's All-Star Futures Game that erased a 2-0 deficit, putting the NL squad ahead with a lead they would not relinquish as they went on to win the game 4-2. The 418-foot blast came off the bat at 108.5 mph on a pitch delivered by 6-foot-10 lefty Noah Schultz, who is the game's fourth-highest ranked pitching prospect (White Sox No. 1, MLB No. 17), and catapulted the left-handed hitting De Paula to Futures Game MVP honors. The Dodgers' top-ranked prospect is having a productive season at High-A thus far, batting .265 with 10 home runs and 26 stolen bases, while registering a lofty .409 OBP thanks to his ability to draw walks (65) just as often as he strikes out (66). The 20-year-old's future looks bright, and this performance could give some extra momentum heading into the second half of the season, which could earn him a promotion to Double-A in the coming weeks.
