Jordy Mercer Dealing With Quadriceps Tightness
3 years agoWashington Nationals infielder Jordy Mercer (quadriceps) was unable to get his quad loose due to cramping on Thursday and may not be able to play on Friday. This has become an issue for the Nationals at shortstop with Trea Turner (finger) potentially missing a couple more games with a jammed finger he suffered on Wednesday. As a result, 34-year-old backup catcher Alex Avila was forced to start at second base on Thursday. Carter Kieboom is dealing with a knee injury in the minors and Luis Garcia and Adrian Sanchez are also injured. If both Turner and Mercer are unable to play on Friday, the Nats may have to go outside the organization for a replacement up the middle. If Mercer gets the start at shortstop or the keystone on Friday, he'll be a low-cost DFS dart throw against Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Luis Urias.
