Jets Say Aaron Rodgers Wants To Play

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said on Monday that quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) wants to play again this season, but Saleh adamantly refused to comment on whether Rodgers will actually see the field again this year with the Jets officially eliminated from postseason contention. It remains unlikely that the four-time MVP will play in the final three games of the year while being only 3 1/2 months removed from Achilles surgery. But the Jets are letting the process play out since Rodgers is months ahead of a typical recovery from a torn Achilles. The 40-year-old's 21-day window to be activated from Injured Reserve closes on Wednesday, so the Jets must activate Rodgers or leave him on IR for the rest of the year. Rodgers is likely to be medically cleared this week, but that doesn't mean he'll play in Week 16 against the Washington Commanders. With Zach Wilson having suffered a concussion on Sunday, it could be Trevor Semien starting for the Jets on Christmas Eve.
