Jeremy Reed Won't Return As Angels Hitting Coach
2 years agoLos Angeles Angels hitting coach Jeremy Reed will not return for the 2023 season. Reed established himself with veteran MVPs and also impacted young up-and-comers like Luis Rengifo, Taylor Ward and Jared Walsh. The status of other coaches, including assistant hitting coaches Paul Sorrento and John Mallee, is unclear. The 41-year-old Reed was the team's hitting coach for four seasons and their minor league hitting coordinator for two seasons before that. But the Angels finished the 2022 season 25th in the majors in runs, and their .687 OPS was tied for eighth worst. And that came despite big offensive years from Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. The Angles led baseball in strikeouts by a wide margin with 1,539, the 13th-most in MLB history. They also drew the sixth-fewest walks in baseball.
