Javonte Williams Heavily Involved In Season Opener
3 years agoDenver Broncos rookie running back Javonte Williams saw 14 carries (three more than Melvin Gordon III) for 45 yards (3.2 yards per tote) in the 27-13 Week 1 season-opening victory over the New York Giants. He caught his lone target in the passing game for a four-yard loss. It was nice to see the second-round rookie so involved right out of the gates, but Gordon isn't going anywhere anytime soon after ripping off a 70-yard touchdown in the second half. Although Williams and Gordon split the offensive snaps down the middle, Denver's coaching staff has clearly given the youngster a vote of confidence in all situations. That's great news. Williams has the skills to take this backfield over eventually, but for now, he'll be more of a solid RB3/flex with upside heading into Week 2 against the Jaguars.
