Javon Baker 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Could Earn Starting Role In Open Receiver Room
6 months agoThe New England Patriots selected Javon Baker in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. This came two rounds after they took Washington's Ja'Lynn Polk as they reinforced a receiving room in need. Baker spent two years as a backup at Alabama before transferring to UCF for a pair of solid campaigns, headlined by 1,139 yards on 52 catches as a senior. Averaging over 20 yards per catch speaks to a true burner, but the scouting report has his game speed as far more effective than the timed speed illustrated by the 4.54 40-yard dash. At 6-foot-1, Baker also does a good job timing the ball in contested spots. Both he and Polk should have a good chance at earning reps amidst Demario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, and a rehabbing Kendrick Bourne. Baker's fantasy fate may rest on how effective Drake Maye's deep ball is. For now, Baker is a nice upside stash available after pick 200 in most drafts and sits as RotoBaller's WR88 in half-PPR preseason ranks.
