Jameis Winston Needs To Get Mike Evans The Ball
5 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston acknowledged that they need to get wide receiver Mike Evans the ball in order to win games. Evans was held without a catch last week against the Saints for just the second time in his six-year NFL career. He has one 100-yard game -- an eight-catch, 180-yard, three-touchdown performance -- and his second best game was a four-catch, 89-yard, one-touchdown game. Evans will match up against Panthers cornerback James Bradberry in London. He's had success against Bradberry before, but Bradberry also held Evans to one catch on 10 targets last year. Head coach Bruce Arians could move Evans around a bit more to utilize his route-running strengths, which could mean some time in the slot. Last week, he played just six of his 56 snaps in the slot. He logged a season-high 15 of 67 plays in the slot during his three-touchdown game against the Giants. Expect the Bucs to make it a point to get Evans the ball in London, making him a bounce-back candidate as a WR1.
