Jalen Hurd Could Be Wild Card For 49ers Offense
3 years agoIf healthy, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jalen Hurd is an ideal fit for head coach Kyle Shanahan's "big slot" No. 3 receiver role. But because of Hurd's injury issues early in his career, he remains a big unknown entering training camp. Hurd would take on significant run-blocking responsibilities in that role, but he could also frequently be flexed out to receiver. The 25-year-old could also be used at running back. After all, he was a running back in college. The Niners think that Hurd can dominate smaller defenders from the slot like he did against the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason in 2019. Hurd missed all of 2019 and 2020 due to injuries, but he could certainly have an impact in San Fran's offense this year if he can stay on the field. He's unlikely to go drafted in shallow leagues, but Hurd isn't a bad late-round flier in deeper formats if he looks good in training camp.
