Jacob deGrom Officially Opts Out Of His Deal
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom officially opted out of his $30.5 million player option for the 2023 season on Monday, according to the MLB Players Association. deGrom becomes a free agent and will be extremely attractive on the open market for teams looking to make a splash at the front of their rotation. The 34-year-old is opting out of the five-year, $137.5 million that he signed before the 2019 season. The two-time Cy Young winner got a late start to the 2022 season due to a shoulder injury, but he was solid when he returned, going 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA (2.13 FIP), a 0.75 WHIP, 102 strikeouts and only eight walks in 64 1/3 innings in 11 starts for the Mets. deGrom is typically dominant when healthy, but fantasy managers will have to remember that he has made just 38 starts in the last three years due to injuries.
