J.D. Martinez Receiving Interest From Blue Jays
1 year agoFree-agent designated hitter J.D. Martinez is receiving interest from the Toronto Blue Jays on the open market. Of course, the Blue Jays lost out to the Dodgers on two-way superstar and designated hitter, Shohei Ohtani and are still in need of a quality bat at DH. Brandon Belt served as the club's DH in 2023 but he is also now a free agent. For his part, Martinez continued to rake at the plate in his age-35 season with the Dodgers in 2023, hitting .271 with 33 home runs, 103 RBI, and an .893 OPS across 479 plate appearances. He did show a rather large increase in strikeout rate as his 31.1% mark was easily the worst of his career while his decreased 7.1% BB% is well below his 8.7% career mark. Nonetheless, he would still add a fearful bat in a Blue Jays offense that's looking to improve after a surprisingly off year at the plate in 2023.
