Gerrit Cole Gets Ejected Friday Against Red Sox
2 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole had a frustrating night in his start against the division-rival Boston Red Sox on Friday in an eventual 5-4 win. Cole was ejected in the sixth inning after arguing with the home-plate umpire right after allowing a three-run home run to Alex Verdugo. The 32-year-old had already thrown 103 pitches over six innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits (two home runs) while walking two and striking out eight in the no-decision. He'll look to get back on track in his next start. On the year over 31 starts, Cole has gone 12-7 with a 3.49 ERA (3.47 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, a league-high 244 strikeouts and 49 walks over 188 1/3 innings. He's also allowed a league-high 31 home runs.
