3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers rookie running back Elijah Mitchell (finger) was in a non-contact jersey on a side field during practice on Thursday. Mitchell, who had surgery on a broken finger on Tuesday, missed practice on Wednesday, but the Niners remain optimistic that he can play in Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 23-year-old has become an every-week RB2 as San Fran's lead back in his rookie season, and hopefully his workload won't be affected if he plays on Sunday against a Jacksonville team that hasn't been terrible against the run (106 yards allowed per game). It'll be hard to recommend benching Mitchell as long as he's active, though, given the 49ers commitment to the run.
