Dylan Carlson 2021 Fantasy Outlook: Top Prospect Entering First Full Season
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals top prospect Dylan Carlson looks set to start the 2021 season with the Major League team after making his MLB debut in 2020. Carlson didn't get called up until mid-August and only saw action in 35 games for the Cardinals, hitting .200/.252/.364 with three homers and a stolen base. But Carlson did improve as the season went on and he had a .611 slugging percentage over the final two weeks of the season. Considered a good all-around hitter with above-average power potential, he displayed those tools in 2019 across Double-A and Triple-A with 26 homers, 20 stolen bases and an impressive .292/.372/.542 slash line in 126 games. Carlson is a switch-hitter who plays good defense in all three outfield spots, so he should see plenty of playing time with most of it likely coming in right field. Although the Cardinals lineup does have some question marks, Carlson has the upside to be a five-category contributor in 2021, with 25 homers and 12 steals more than possible. He does only have a total of 198 plate appearances above Double-A and he's had a slow spring to date so growing pains are possible. However, Carlson in a great position to outperform his 168 ADP once he gets his bat going.
