Dominic Smith Remains Sidelined Thursday

New York Mets outfielder Dominic Smith (wrist) remains out of the Mets' Grapefruit League lineup on Thursday for their game against the Washington Nationals. Smith was removed from Wednesday's starting lineup in Grapefruit League play due to "general wrist soreness." This wrist issue does not appear serious, despite sidelining Smith for the past two days. Once he returns to action, Smith will likely get significant playing time ahead of Opening Day as the Mets' starting left fielder. While Smith can potentially return 30-plus HR and 80-90 RBI over the course of a full season, those numbers should be discounted due to inherent playing time risk for Smith. He may share some time in left field with Brandon Nimmo and/or J.D. Davis, or be removed late in games for defense, over the course of the 2021 season.
