Dolphins Releasing Bobby McCain
4 years agoThe Miami Dolphins informed team captain and starting safety Bobby McCain that they are releasing him on Thursday, according to a source. McCain, who was drafted in the fifth round in 2015 out of Memphis, grew into a dependable member of Miami's secondary. He signed a contract extension in 2018, but his release was a way for the team to save some salary cap space. McCain's release will save the team between $5.6 million (pre-June 1 cut) and $6.4 million (post-June 1 cut) while carrying less than $2 million in dead money. With McCain out the door, Miami could decide to bring in former Colts safety Malik Hooker, who they visited with earlier in the week. McCain has 254 tackles (nine for loss), seven QB hits, seven interceptions, 30 passes defensed and four sacks in 87 career games (55 starts) in his six seasons with the Dolphins.
