Diamondbacks Interested In Mike Leake
6 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks were working on a trade to acquire Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Mike Leake earlier this week, according to MLB sources. Leake took the mound on Wednesday against the Astros and threw a complete game. There's a chance that his performance on Wednesday could re-open the talks between the two teams or generate other interest. Leake is owed $15 million in 2020 with a $5 million buyout of an $18 million mutual option in 2021, so the Mariners would have to eat a fair amount of money in any trade. The righty also has a full no-trade clause, but he'd likely waive that for a better chance at winning this year. Leake isn't much of a mixed league option without many strikeouts, but he's 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA with two walks and seven strikeouts in 16 innings in his last two outings. His style of pitching would play better in the National League, but a move there wouldn't do much to boost his fantasy value all that much.
