Bill O'Brien To Be Patriots Next Offensive Coordinator
2 years agoAlabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is returning to be the New England Patriots offensive coordinator. Quarterback Mac Jones has said that he wants to be coached hard, and O'Brien will come in and do that. The next step for New England is hiring an offensive line coach to help improve a unit that struggled in 2022. The 53-year-old O'Brien spent the last two years running Alabama's offense, but he'll return to the NFL, where he began his career in 2007 as a coaching assistant for the Patriots. He was the team's offensive coordinator from 2009-11 before serving as a head coach at Penn State and the Houston Texans. O'Brien will be in charge of a Patriots offense that finished 32nd in red-zone efficiency (19 TDs in 45 trips), 27th in third-down efficiency (34.8%), 28th in first downs (288) and 19th in sacks allowed (41) in 2022.
