Austin Ekeler 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: RB3 With Enormous Upside
7 months agoWhen healthy – Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler has been a fantasy force to be reckoned with. Since 2019, Ekeler has led all running backs in receptions and has been a touchdown-scoring machine, totaling 58 in that span. Regression hit him hard in 2023, however, as he caught just 51 balls and scored an uninspiring six times. It's hard to argue that Ekeler was 100% healthy after suffering an ankle sprain in Week 1 – an injury notorious for sapping an RB of their full potential – but Ekeler has a new home in 2024 as a Washington Commander. With established backfield mate Brian Robinson Jr. as the projected early-down grinder, Austin Ekeler is ready to take over the passing-down role vacated by Antonio Gibson. While it was a boon for Ekeler's fantasy value to handle all the work in Los Angeles, he has been on record multiple times stating he wants to share the running back duties to boost his efficiency. Ekeler did some of his best work in a committee with Melvin Gordon in the past, and he's the RB19 in NFFC drafts right now – #62 overall off the board – and he's a fantastic RB2 candidate in PPR formats. However, RotoBaller's current running back rankings have him trending down, with a ranking of 36th among all RBs heading into 2024 fantasy football drafts.
