12 months agoShortstop Andrelton Simmons officially announced his retirement from professional baseball on Thursday. Simmons wraps up a lengthy MLB career after spending 11 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs. The 34-year-old last played in the majors with the Cubs in 2022, when he went 13-for-75 (.173) with no home runs, seven RBI and four steals in 34 games. The four-time Gold Glover began his career in 2012 with the Braves and spent the first four seasons of his career in Atlanta. Simmons was mostly a glove-first player and didn't have much power at the position, never reaching the 20-homer plateau. He finishes his 11-year career with a .263/.312/.366 slash line, 70 home runs, 444 RBI and 72 stolen bases in 1,225 regular season games.
