NHL DFS Lineup Picks (3/14/16): FanDuel & DraftKings Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Welcome to the Daily Fantasy Hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks article for Monday, March 14th of the 2015/2016 NHL season. Each day we'll be providing you with a handful of forward, defensemen, and goaltender picks for DraftKings and FanDuel GPP and cash games.

March hockey is well under way as playoff races continue to heat up. Each game on Monday's card has some type of playoff implication attached to it. Teams like the New York Islanders continue making a push up the standings, while teams like the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks are slowly losing ground and hope in clinching a playoff berth.

Tonight's lineup features two goalies with the top matchups on Monday. For updated goalie confirmations, check out leftwinglock.com.

NHL DFS Picks for Monday, March 14th

A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.

For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.

Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.

Jake Allen - Goaltender, Blues (DraftKings - $7,800 FanDuel - $9,500)

Allen faces a Calgary Flames team on Monday that have lost four of their last six games. The Flames have had trouble finding any consistency with their goaltenders this season. Joni Ortio has started Calgary's last four games so it's likely that Jonas Hiller will get the nod against the St. Louis Blues. Hiller has allowed 14 goals in his last three starts. Allen has won five straight starts as the Blues continue to score heavily and push towards the postseason. The Blues have scored 10 goals in their last two and should have no problem supporting their netminder.

John Gibson - Goaltender, Ducks (DraftKings - $7,600 FanDuel - $8,100)

Gibson also heads into a solid matchup versus the New Jersey Devils. The Devils score the fewest in the league, 2.19 per game, and have begun to lean on backup goalie, Keith Kinkaid, now that Corey Schneider is set to miss an extended amount of time. New Jersey is desperately clinging onto their playoff hopes while the Ducks have lost three in a row after having won 11 straight. Gibson has also lost his last two starts. Look for the Ducks and Gibson to bounce back against a team that struggles to light the lamp.

Teuvo Teravainen - Center, Blackhawks (DraftKings - $4,000 FanDuel - $4,400)

Teravainen is off to a solid start this month, already posting four points in five games. Two of the five have come in his last two as he continues to see a steady amount of ice time. Chicago's matchup against the Los Angeles Kings is one of the most appealing on Monday. A potential playoff series preview, both are two of the top teams in the Western Conference and could eventually meet again in the postseason. Teravainen also tallies a solid amount of shots on goal and is an affordable tournament option.

Vincent Trocheck - Center, Panthers (DraftKings - $5,100 FanDuel - $7,000)

Trocheck has a ton of appeal for both DFS sites but could produce more for FanDuel because of his play on special teams. Trocheck has already picked up eight points in March, already surpassing point totals in October and December, and on pace to exceed his season high total of 11 in February. Trocheck has been on quite the tear and should continue his productive play in a competitive matchup against the New York Islanders; two teams likely headed for the playoffs. Trocheck also puts the puck on net often and averages over 20 minutes of ice time.

Vladimir Tarasenko - Winger, Blues (DraftKings - $7,300 FanDuel - $8,100)

Tarasenko has been an absolute beast all season, and is off to another hot start as we head into the middle of March. Only five games into the month, Tarasenko has already posted seven points (four goals, three assist), six of which have come in the last three. Tarasenko should have no trouble scoring against the Calgary Flames who allow 3.11 goals a game, the most in the NHL. Tarasenko is a consistent threat and a steady option for Daily Fantasy.

Patrick Kane - Winger, Blackhawks (DraftKings - $8,500 FanDuel - $8,300)

It's been difficult not mentioning Patty Kane's name on any hockey Daily Fantasy lineup, as he continues to lead the league in points. He's hit a rare snide, failing to pick up a point in his last two games, but it's unlikely for Kane to go a third without posting some type of production. Kane will be heavily involved in Monday's premier matchup, and is certainly worth his price on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Dmitry Kulikov - Defenseman, Panthers (DraftKings - $3,600 FanDuel - $3,000)

Kulikov, like Stewart, will help you afford others on this list. He only has 14 points on the season, but could put a tiny but affective dent in your lineup with shots on goal and blocked shots. Kulikov is on the ice for over 20 minutes a game and sees some time on the power play as well. Kulikov should only be used in tournaments. He is certainly a risk but will reach projection and value if he puts up around 2.0 fantasy points.

Andrej Sekera - Defenseman, Oilers (DraftKings - $4,500 FanDuel - $4,000)

Sekera is the epitome of an overall stat producer for Daily Fantasy. Sekera is on the ice for over 20 minutes a game and is a very solid two-way player. He tallies an abundance of blocked shots and shots on goal, and is an assists threat as well. He has only scored six goals on the season but has posted 19 assists, four already this month. Sekera is an affordable option that can give your lineup a boost for an affordable price.
