Is Emari Demercado Playing in Week 10?
The Arizona Cardinals have ruled running back Emari Demercado out for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons with the same toe injury that kept him out last week.
Emari Demercado's most recent game was against the Ravens on Oct. 29, with the rookie out of TCU rushing the ball 20 times for 78 yards in the team's 31-24 loss.
Demercado has 49 carries this season for 195 yards and a touchdown. He's also caught 12 of his 16 targets for 64 yards. The rookie has filled in admirably with James Conner sidelined.
Emari Demercado Fantasy Football Injury Outlook
Looking ahead though, Emari Demercado's fantasy value is about to take a major hit and it isn't even because of his injury. The Cardinals starting running back, James Conner, was on the Injured Reserve with a knee injury, but he has been designated to return. He's eligible to return as soon as this week.
James Conner averaged 79.5 rushing yards per game over the four full games that he played this season. Adding in his six carries in the game against Cincinnati where he was injured, Conner has 68 carries for 364 yards and two touchdowns this season. He's averaging 5.4 yards per carry, a career-best mark.
Once Conner is a full-go, Emari Demercado is likely to be relegated to the backup role. He should have a slightly higher role than he did at the start of the season when he had just four total carries over the team's first four games, but there will likely be a fairly large drop-off in touches that would drastically hurt Demercado's fantasy appeal.
