Free MLB Betting Picks - Today's Best Bets, Expert Predictions, Odds (6/14/23)

Clayton Kershaw - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Starting Pitchers, Starts and Sits

Thunder Dan's top MLB betting picks and best bets for today's MLB games on 6/14/23. His free picks against the spread, game totals, NRFI, and other various baseball bets.

Another big slate of games today and not too many matinees for once on a Wednesday, which is something I don't mind at all. The Braves got rained out last night and my buddy Casey Wilson had recommended their run line -1.5 against the Tigers. I can get on board with that one and I'll give you a few others that I like today as well!

Today's MLB Betting Picks - Yankees @ Mets

O/U: 7.5 | ML: NYY -110
NYY: Gerrit Cole | NYM: Justin Verlander

So Vegas has this game as a pick'em, giving both teams an equal chance at winning. I am not so sure I view it that way. While Gerrit Cole hasn't been quite as dominant this season as we are used to (he's spoiled us), Justin Verlander has looked...dare I say it...possibly washed?

The early returns for Verlander in a Mets jersey have not been good. He's getting hit hard and not missing bats like did last year. Has father time finally caught up to the 40-year-old? Or have all the injuries over the years just taken their toll? He was a great story last season, but unless he somehow finds a few more MPH on his fastball, he's going to have to pitch perfectly with his secondary stuff and hit his spots every time.

We've seen something similar happen with Max Scherzer this year as Mad Max is trying to live at 92-93 MPH on his fastball and finding out that life is tough on pitchers who don't have superhuman velocity.

I like the Yankees to get to Verlander here and we saw what they did to Max last night. Cole has the advantage here as he's in better form. It's a shame we don't get to see Aaron Judge or Pete Alonso in this series, but I think we will still see plenty of offense (which makes me consider the OVER on 7.5 runs, too, but I won't officially recommend that).

Pick: Yankees MKL (-110) DraftKings Sportsbook

Today's MLB Betting Picks - White Sox @ Dodgers

O/U: 8.5 | ML: LAD -275
CHW: Mike Clevinger | LAD: Clayton Kershaw

The Dodgers didn't totally smash Lance Lynn into pieces, but they did cover their run total (4.5 runs) for me last night and finished off the White Sox 5-1, covering the run line, too. Tony Gonsolin (I'm not a fan and think he's overrated) pitched a gem and the White Sox offensive struggles continued as they could barely scratch out anything against Gonzo or the Dodger bullpen.

Tonight is a much bigger mismatch as the Dodgers have their future Hall-of-Fame ace, Clayton Kershaw, on the hill and the White Sox have to hand the ball to...Mike Clevinger. Kershaw is having quite the season and is in peak form right now. He just tossed seven innings of shutout baseball against the Reds in his last start, striking out nine, and dominated the Yankees to the tune of nine strikeouts the start before that.

To be fair, Clevinger hasn't been terrible - he's been perfectly mediocre. But he will have his hands full here against one of the better lineups in baseball and a group of patient hitters who aren't likely to help him out by swinging at anything bad.

I love the Dodgers here, I think they win going away again tonight and I look for Kershaw to continue his renaissance with another masterpiece against this slumping Chicago offense.

Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (-135), DraftKings Sportsbook

Good luck, Rotoballers!
