FanDuel PGA DFS Lineup Picks - 2023 Wells Fargo Championship Daily Fantasy Golf Advice

Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for your PGA DFS research. After last week's Mexico Open, we return to the U.S. for the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.

In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the Wells Fargo Championship. While it's impossible to hit on every golfer, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

Like always, the purpose of this piece is to help you put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups for FanDuel, whether that be from a GPP perspective or a cash-game mentality. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

2023 Wells Fargo Championship - PGA DFS Overview

The Course: Quail Hollow

Par 71 - 7,538 Yards, Greens: Bermuda, Designed By: George Cobb, Renovations By: Tom Fazio

Originally designed by George Cobb in 1961, Quail Hollow has always presented players with the daunting closing stretch dubbed the "Green Mile", but a Tom Fazio upgrade prior to hosting the 2017 PGA Championship puts the North Carolina layout in the conversation for one of the tougher tests on the Tour schedule.

The first thing that jumps out is Quail Hollow's length. At almost 7,600 yards, a golfer's distance will play an important factor this week. Players will be using the big dog often, which makes me very interested in a player's prowess off the tee. Ball striking will be important, as it seemingly is every week. We must also consider scrambling ability and bogey avoidance on this tough layout.

For an in-depth breakdown of this week's course, check out RotoBaller's PGA Course Breakdown by Josh Bennett!

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for FanDuel (PGA DFS)

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice and DFS prop picks.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Rory McIlroy ($12,100)

No need to take up a ton of space here, as Rory McIlroy is an elite player with elite course history. He's won at Quail Hollow three times across his illustrious career.

With neither Jon Rahm nor Scottie Scheffler teeing it up this week, McIlroy sits atop the salary scale. Despite that distinction, he'll still be a popular FanDuel option this week, so we must consider his ownership levels when entering GPP contests. He's a no-brainer in cash and single-entry formats thanks to his elite skill set and the unique course fit.

Cameron Young ($10,900)

If you want to draw a profile for what works at Quail Hollow, it would look like Cameron Young's game. Uber long off the tee (second in Driving Distance L24) and an excellent mid-long iron player (ninth Proximity 175-200; eight Proximity 200+ L24), Young possesses a McIlroy-like skill set that (should) suit this lengthy layout perfectly.

Young scored a runner-up in this event last year, but unfortunately, that wasn't at Quail Hollow. He did gain some experience on the layout during a President's Cup appearance, though he's without an official stroke-play start on the course. Despite that lack of extensive experience on this course, I'm all-in on his upside and slate-breaking explosiveness.

Viktor Hovland ($10,600)

Hovland has a limited, but impressive, track record at Quail Hollow, posting a T3 in his lone 2021 outing on the Charlotte layout on the strength of a 68-67 weekend.

The young Norwegian is one of the game's most consistent ball strikers (first in this elite Wells Fargo field in SG: Ball Striking L24). That sharp tee-to-green play routinely puts him in a position to succeed on the schedule's toughest layouts, such as Quail Hollow. He's been knocking on the door in recent events such as The Players and the Masters. A breakthrough is coming.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Rickie Fowler ($10,100)

Maybe it's the romantic in me, but there's something poetic about the "full circle" possibilities of Rickie Fowler completing his long-awaited comeback at the course where he notched his first career PGA Tour victory.

Fowler has rediscovered his tight ball striking over the last six months with the irons being especially crisp. He's gained strokes on Approach in every single start he's made this year and grades out fourth in this week's elite field in SG: Approach (L36). The ball-striking tells us that the fan favorite's recent run of good play is no mirage. Fully rejuvenated, Fowler should play well this week on a course where he's had a lot of success.

Tommy Fleetwood ($9,700)

The Englishman's length off the tee has always left something to be desired, yet his track record on long, tough golf courses is elite. Fleetwood grades out 10th among this week's entrants in SG: T2G on layouts measuring over 7,400 yards.

His ball striking has been tidy (12th SG: APP L24), while his ability around the green (ninth SG: ATG) allows him to grind out pars in tough environments. A six-time winner on the DP World Tour, Fleetwood has yet to hit paydirt on U.S. soil. However, he's routinely been in the mix in major championships in years past, as well as a couple of regular Tour events in 2023.

Keith Mitchell ($9,600)

The immediate form hasn't been great for "Cashmere Keith", but his skill set and tremendous track record at Quail Hollow indicate that he could get things back on track this week.

Mitchell heads to Charlotte in search of his third straight top-eight result at Quail Hollow. The UGA alum has consistently thrived on this lengthy layout thanks to his elite ability off the tee. Quail Hollow is a driver-heavy layout that requires excellence with the tee ball, an area where Mitchell has thrived. He grades out first in this elite Wells Fargo field in SG: OTT, while ranking 11th in Driving Distance (L50).

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Wyndham Clark ($9,300)

The former NCAA Individual champion has always had all the required tools to thrive on the PGA Tour, he's just rarely been able to put everything together at once. That's changing for Clark, as he's finally found some consistency with the irons to go with distance off the tee and touch on the greens that are already in the game's upper echelon.

Clark has now gained strokes on Approach in eight of his last nine starts. That improvement has shown up in his finishes, as he last missed a cut in October of 2022 and has posted a pair of top-six results in his last four starts. He's proven himself to have a strong DFS floor this year and there's legit tournament-winning upside that comes with rostering him at this reasonable price point.

Emiliano Grillo ($9,100)

Grillo comes into Wells Fargo week on the heels of two excellent outings. He scored an impressive T7 against an elite field at the RBC Heritage three weeks ago. Most recently, the 30-year-old smashed at Vidanta Villarta, recording a T5 in last week's Mexico Open.

His recent run of form correlates directly with spikes in two facets: iron play and putting. Grillo has gained a combined 13.2 strokes on Approach over his last two, while also gaining a total of 7.3 strokes on the greens.

He brings that growing confidence to a Quail Hollow layout where he's previously found success. Grillo has finished T14 or better in each of his last two visits to the Cobb design.

Dylan Wu ($7,900)

The Northwestern alum has quietly put together a solid stretch of golf. Wu has run off eight consecutive made cuts, including a T10 at the Honda, a T35 at THE PLAYERS Championship, and most recently, a T15 in last week's Mexico Open...where he gained an impressive 5.9 strokes T2G. He's now gained an average of 2.8 strokes T2G across his last five starts.

Wu has proven himself capable of handling the types of demands that this lengthy Quail Hollow layout will throw at him this week, as he's been a plus player in Proximity from 200+ yards. The 26-year-old certainly feels underpriced on this slate, as he stands 38th among Wells Fargo's talented entrants in SG: T2G over his last 24 measured rounds.
