Hello, RotoBallers! The Euro 2020 tournament continues with another three game slate Thursday. Teams are now playing their second games of the competition, so we will start to have a better idea of who might be advancing through to the knockout stage. I have a full breakdown for you covering this slate. Keep reading this breakdown for my DFS soccer picks on RotoBaller and see how to have success on Thursday's slate.
The large majority of my DFS content will be covering the EURO 2020 tournament until the EPL returns in August, however, there is always more soccer DFS to cover. UCL DFS Lineup Picks - Overview
North Macedonia vs Ukraine
Despite losing 3-1, North Macedonia was able to contain Austria better than most people would have thought. Ukraine (-145) lost a 3-2 to The Netherlands in their first game and need three points from this game to put themselves back into position to advance. They were able to attack well against The Netherlands, and this matchup will be a little easier for them. Ukraine definitely has the upper hand in this game, but North Macedonia have already proved to be a formidable opponent in this tournament. The goal total over/under is 2, 2.5 with the over fairly likely at -125.
Belgium vs Denmark
We will see how Denmark responds to the Christian Eriksen incident in a huge matchup Thursday. Prior to the tournament, both of these teams were favorites to advance to the knockout stage. Denmark lost their first game in an upset and now has a very difficult matchup against Belgium (+100) in this game. Belgium rolled in their first game with a 3-0 win over Russia, and they will be the better team in this game again. The goal total over/under is 2, 2.5.
Austria vs The Netherlands
Both teams scored three goals and got wins in their first games. The Netherlands (-165) are favored in this game, and a win would put them in a great position to win the group. Austria will likely have gained some confidence after their first game. Austria will likely be a little out-matched against The Netherlands, but it should be a good game nonetheless. The goal total over/under is a slate-high 2.5, 3.
FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders
The top attacking stud on this slate is Romelu Lukaku ($22). He showed his goal-scoring dominance in Belgium's first game with two goals against Russia. Denmark will be a more difficult challenge for him, however, he's the lead dog in a powerful Belgium attacking group. He might get the benefit of getting Kevin de Bruyne ($23) back too and has +120 anytime scoring odds which are far and away the best in this game. The rest of the Belgium attackers were lackluster from a fantasy perspective in their first game, and there are plenty of better spots to target on this slate than jamming in more Belgium.
The Netherlands were impressive in their first game scoring three times against Ukraine. They get a similar type of matchup in this game against Austria, so getting some exposure to them is a good strategy. I'm going back to Memphis Depay ($21) here. He was involved Sunday with one shot on goal and three chances created. He was just unable to find the back of the net which is something I think he does Thursday. It's hard to keep a scorer like him off the scoresheet for long, and we at least know that he has a good floor. If he does happen to go scoreless again, he likely won't kill our lineup with a single-digit game. For $2 cheaper, I like Wout Weghorst ($19) here as well, and I think you can actually pair to two together well. Austria's defense was good enough to get the win against North Macedonia, but they really were not impressive. The Netherlands have good potential at another 2-3 goal game, so a Depay/Weghorst mini-stack is viable.
North Macedonia conceded three goals to an average Austrian attack in their first game. Now they'll have another tough task trying to control Ukraine who are coming off a two-goal performance against The Netherlands. Lots of people will probably be playing Roman Yaremchuk ($20) after his 43.9 point game. While I do like him as a top play, you can hedge a little bit and save $2 with Ruslan Malinovskiy ($18). Malinovskiy didn't find the back of the net in the first game but has a good record doing so for his country. I like both attackers in this game - and as evidenced in the first game - they can be used together in a ministack. I'll also take a shot at Oleksandr Zinchenko ($14) for this price in this game thinking he will get involved in the attack more this time out.
Other attackers to consider for some lower ownership on this slate are Marcel Sabitzer ($15) and Cristoph Baumgartner ($11).
FanDuel DFS Defenders
The value defenders on this slate are pretty ugly. Andreas Christensen ($9) is probably the best in the group. The Chelsea centerback has a nice matchup against Belgium Thursday. He will be in a great position to collect defensive stats, and he has a very affordable price tag as well.
North Macedonia will be under the same kind of pressure in this game as they were against Austria. Their defenders should be in for similar fantasy performances on this slate. Stefan Ristovski ($13) is tough to pay up for on this slate, so Darko Velkovski ($11) is going to be my recommended play here.
Thomas Meunier ($15) was outstanding for Belgium on the wing against Russia. It's unlikely he scores and provides an assist again, however, he is the elite defender to pay up for on this slate who has definite attacking upside.
FanDuel DFS Goalkeepers
Georgi Bushchan ($12) had a disappointing fantasy game against The Netherlands, but I think the Ukrainian defense is primed for a bounce-back game. They're facing the worst team in the group in North Macedonia in a game where they really need three points. Obviously, Ukraine had a difficult time containing The Netherlands attackers, but this is a much different matchup. Ukraine are solid favorites and can keep a clean sheet here. Bushchan will likely be popular but for the right reasons.
Thibaut Courtois ($11) is a little cheap here for me. Denmark are a capable team, but they struggled for obvious reasons in their first game and are now without their best midfield creator. Belgium should win this game which gives Courtois a solid floor. He has a really nice ceiling if Belgium can keep a clean sheet here.
