Targeting the right running back in the final round of your draft can be the difference between winning and losing your fantasy league.
Fantasy managers who took a chance on Bucky Irving or Jordan Mason in the final round last season likely secured a league-winner. In this piece, we will take a look at three intriguing late-round running backs who could provide similar upside.

Dylan Sampson Fantasy Football Outlook
RotoBaller PPR Rank: RB 49, Overall 151
NFFC ADP: RB 48, Overall 160.8
After selecting Quinshon Judkins in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Browns added to their running back corps by selecting Dylan Sampson out of Tennessee in the fourth round of the draft. During his final season in college, Sampson was named 2024 SEC Offensive Player of the Year as he led the conference with 1,491 rushing yards and 22 rushing scores.
While many expected Sampson to be fighting alongside veteran Jerome Ford for the No. 2 role as Judkins would be the clear starter, given Judkins' legal issues, Sampson has a clear path to open the season as the starter. While Judkins saw his charges dropped last week, the Browns have yet to sign him to his rookie contract, which has continued to keep him off the field.
Seeing that Judkins has already missed the first two weeks of the pre-season and is in danger of missing their final game, puts his ability for the start of the season in serious doubt.
While he has been sidelined, Sampson has been working with the starters. This past week, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reported that Sampson was seen taking first-team reps over Ford. In addition, Sampson was also given the first carry during their preseason opener.
Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Judkins' status, but it appears Sampson is the early-season favorite to start the season as the RB1. While he may have lost those duties to either Ford or Judkins, for the time being, the Tennessee product is worth the investment as the RB48 in NFFC formats.
He has a clear path to provide immense value at that cost.
Second day in a row the first RB up is Dylan Sampson.

Jaylen Wright Fantasy Football Outlook
RotoBaller PPR Rank: RB 51, Overall 159
NFFC ADP: RB 50, Overall 171.5
The 22-year-old had a limited role in this rookie season, running the ball just 68 times for 249 yards. However, Wright could be in store for a sophomore breakout.
This past week, the Dolphins announced that running back De'Von Achane (calf) is designated with a calf injury and is unlikely to practice at least the following week. While this injury does not seem overly serious as of now, if Achane continues to be held out of practice as we approach the regular season, fantasy managers could see Wright's ADP soar.
During the preseason, Wright has typically split duties with rookie running back Ollie Gordon II. While Gordon has shown more flash during the preseason, Wright will likely still be given the first crack during the regular season due to the experience within the system.
In his rookie season, Wright only had double-digit carries in one game and did not disappoint. In their Week 5 game against the Patriots, Wright ran the ball 13 times for 86 yards.
Fantasy managers looking to draft Achane in the first round of their draft should look to grab Wright in the later rounds as a high-upside handcuff. While Wright will not hold much value when Achane is healthy, if he were to miss time, Wright could carry RB2 upside.
Jaylen Wright was one of 12 running backs with a 5% explosive run percentage AND an above-average 18% missed tackles forced rate per @FantasyPtsData, with a min. of 50 carries.

Blake Corum Fantasy Football Outlook
RotoBaller PPR Rank: RB 58, Overall 190
NFFC ADP: RB 58, Overall 197.5
The final running back we will examine in this piece is another Year 2 option, Blake Corum. Like Wright, Corum did not have a significant role in his debut campaign; he totaled just 207 yards on 58 attempts. In 2024, Kyren Williams led the Los Angeles backfield and will likely retain a similar role, as Williams recently signed a three-year extension.
While this will limit Corum's ceiling as a standalone running back, it does raise his value as a handcuff.
During the preseason and training camp, the Michigan product has continued to be deployed as the RB2 over rookie Jarquez Hunter, which suggests that if Williams were to miss time, Corum would be the first name called.
Unlike the first two names on this list, Corum will not have a fantasy-relevant role when the season opens in a few weeks. However, managers who take the zero-RB approach in their drafts should look to grab Corum in the final rounds of their draft, as he could be the most sought-after handcuff at the position.
Suppose he were to see statting improving in this potent Los Angeles offense that recently welcomed Davante Adams. Corum could carry RB1 upside on a per-game basis.
Talked a lot about Rams RB Blake Corum's shiftiness this offseason. That's on display here. Really nice cutback on the second clip to get 11.
Also a shoutout to Wyatt Bowles (No. 60). He's quietly been playing well. pic.twitter.com/QtnQNHGzxy
