ANALYSIS: Carolina Panthers wide receiver Diontae Johnson caught a mere two passes for 19 yards in his Carolina debut in Week 1.
However, Johnson did see a hefty six targets his way, which is a promising sign from a volume standpoint. Quarterback Bryce Young struggled against the New Orleans defense as he completed just 13 of his passes for 161 yards. He also threw two interceptions.
The lack of consistency will hinder Johnson's ceiling but seeing him receive a solid target share in the opening week suggests brighter days could be ahead.
The 28-year-old logged just one less snap than Adam Thielen (who led the team) but was targeted on 22.2% of his routes, which was one of the higher marks among receivers last week.
Given his target share, Johnson shapes up to be a safe WR3 in PPR leagues and a solid flex play in half-point PPR formats in Week 2.
