Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox (6/20/19)

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (6/19) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Thursday, June 20th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 20th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Blake Snell owners. All fantasy rosters are built w/a brown paper bag. Breathe into it to prevent hyperventilation. (0.1IP, 6ER, 0K, 4BB).
  • Chris Paddack back to start on Saturday. As I said, this could be messy if he’s not already in lineups or you’re able to make adjustments.
  • Jean Segura not working at leadoff (0.91AVG). Two-hole is his spot (.282AVG).
  • Hearty eaters. The Grand Slam is affordable and delicious. Willson Contreras & Mike Trout feasts on it plus an extra loaded tater.
  • Best Phillies hitter last 30days: Scott Kingery 7HR, 16RBI, .333AVG. Worth the wait.
  • Patrick Corbin & Max Scherzer. Powerful double-header combo.
  • Jose Altuve is back. George Springer starts rehab today (Thursday). Gettin crowded at table w/all these mouths to feed.
  • Travis D'Arnaud at leadoff?! Stop the madness. Put Austin Meadows back at leadoff and call-up Nate Lowe. You can’t say it’s not possible. Yandy Diaz just went on IL. You called up Daniel Robertson. Wow.
  • Gary Sanchez w/the THUNDER!! (21HR).
  • No funny bone enjoys getting hit by a baseball. Ask Trey Mancini as he might miss a few days.
  • Andrew Heaney. It’s the Blue Jays. They will walk into Ks for you. No need to beat around the bush (3.2IP, 5ER, 4BB)
  • Christian Yelich owner is that kid that walks around counting his $7, knowing damn well everyone else wants a slushy on this 108-degree day.
  • Domingo Santana heating up. 4HR, 10RBI, .333AVG/2weeks. Who needs Edwin Encarnacion?
  • Trevor Williams, go back from whence you came w/that 7ER, 5IP stuff.
  • Willians Astudillo HR(3). How did he sneak past us all to get back in the lineup?
  • Joey Gallo starts rehab at Rookie level. Poor, poor pitchers. Gonna give them a lifetime of nightmares.
  • Cesar Puello…I remember you. You intrigued me. Now w/Marlins. Hmmm, more playing time maybe?
  • Rich Hill does blisters, not forearm tightness. Julio Urias, Ross Stripling?
  • Max Scherzer definitely on ironman list, pitching w/busted nose (7IP, 0ER, 10K).
  • Yasiel Puig loves summer. .273, 4HR, 6RBI, 2SB in June).
  • Everyone’s a runner. Juan Soto ties 2018 mark w/five SB.
  • Is a “reliable” closer worth an early round choice? Blake Treinen, Edwin Diaz, & Roberto Osuna (three BS) all have their let-down moments.
  • League leader in Blown Saves. Luke Jackson(six) & he still has a job. ?!?!
  • Daniel Murphy HR(six), but days of big power is gone. Aging w/batting average. Injury risk.
  • Resurrection vs. Breakout. Josh Donaldson 6HR, 11RBI, 1SB, .286AVG/two weeks; Max Kepler 7HR, 14RBI, .391AVG/two weeks. THUNDAH!!
  • Fantasy gods, you truly test my discipline, my mental stability, and my resolve w/yet another injury. You’ve shown your might. Now leave Rafael Devers’ hamstring alone. Give us a “lol, jk” & move along.
  • Does it ever frustrate you how there are hundreds of HRs this year? They’re everywhere. Yet somehow the guys you got didn’t show up when they were handing out special bats this year. Maybe it's just me.
  • FAAB Funday Sunday: Zac Gallen finally gets called up. Adbert Alzolay gets called up for a start.
  • Enjoy your Thursday baseball, even w/only 12 games. Also, be engaged with other baseball fans.
