Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox (6/19/19)

Welcome to the Wednesday, June 19th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 19th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Fantasy Fireman: All too often people run around scared, screaming for help. They want someone to help extinguish the anxiety built up from struggling draft picks. Patience. Just like Eloy Jimenez coming around and no one is passing out anymore. (6HR, 13RBI, .359AVG in 2weeks)
  • Nick Castellanos w/SB. Only one HR, one SB in the month of June. Change of scenery needed.
  • Cardinals offense learned no lesson. Jordan Yamamoto even better second time around (seven scoreless, seven K). In Philly next. On edge.
  • A career .243 hitter in June, don’t be alarmed by Josh Bell’s sluggish month. 20th HR a taste of July/August.
  • How much does it suck to be w/o George Springer, Joey Gallo, and Carlos Carrasco in TGFBI? Let me count the ways.
  • Giancarlo Stanton boo’d in return. 0-for-4 after a two-month break. Yeah, baseball is ridiculous sometimes. Edwin Encarnacion SMASH(22) helps lighten the mood.
  • Tampa Bay gets too full of itself. A game full of openers/relievers? Didn’t work when all you needed was a good Ryan Yarbrough.
  • Kole Calhoun gives power (16), can’t resolve batting average (.235). Hmmm, reminds me of Kyle Schwarber (16HR, .233). Wow. Fraterntical Twinsies. Is it a thing?
  • Anthony DeSclafani harnesses Astros. Don’t rush in. Tough to tempt fate w/many battles against MIL, COL, CHC upcoming.
  • Jesse Winker is so rude to welcome Justin Verlander to GABP w/leadoff HR(12)
  • Peter Alonso w/18.8%Brls/BBE ranks seventh-best. 24th HR. 2.8WAR even has Freddie Freeman impressed (20th HR, 2.7WAR)
  • Jose Ramirez HOMERS! HE’S BACK!! WE WERE RIGHT!!! — Don’t be THAT guy.
  • Max Kepler tied game. Max is clutch. .318AVG, 36RBI w/men on base. Won game w/HR(18). Huh, that’s the same number as Nolan Arenado.
  • Jake Bauers loves road trips. (DET, CLE). 2HR, 5RBI, .462AVG last seven days. 31.7%K rate last month.
  • Oscar Mercado is a sneaky little devil (two SB).
  • Red Sox love teamwork or 8s & 12s. Guys w/12HR (Mookie Betts, Rafael Devers, Michael Chavis). Guys w/8SB (Andrew Benintendi, Betts, Devers). The common theme: Badass alter-ego Ninja Turtle Rafael D.
  • Jarrod Dyson Drought continues. No SB in 10games.
  • HOTNESS! Ramon Laureano. 3HR, 11RBI, 2SB, .346AVG last seven days. Fifth in order. Some respect.
  • "Failed Cubs prospect” Jorge Soler already at 20HR
  • Mariners moved up my list of targets to stream pitchers against w/Encarnacion trade.
  • Remember Logan Allen? Preseason hype. You know, the guy who has a bet w/John Cena. Well, he won twice last night. Uncertain if he stays in majors. Solid pitcher if he does.
  • Of course, Joc Pederson homers(19). It was righty day in LA.
  • Clayton Kershaw (7-1). So many doubters and health/back experts in the preseason. Utter dominance. Applaud your perseverance, discipline & determination.
  • Enjoy your Wednesday baseball, both early and late games. Also, get out there and share some love amongst a few fantasy baseball people you've not spoken to before. Be engaged.
