PROSPECT: Carson Whisenhunt, LHP, San Francisco Giants
ERIC CROSS' LATEST PROSPECT RANKING: N/A
CALL-UP ETA: Late 2024/Early 2025
ANALYSIS: San Francisco Giants' No. 2 prospect Carson Whisenhunt has jumped up prospect rankings since being drafted in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He gave up zero runs across 7 2/3 innings across rookie ball and Single-A in 2022 while striking out 14 batters and issuing just one walk.
Last season, Whisenhunt had a combined 2.45 ERA across Single-A, High-A, and Double-A in 16 starts. Unfortunately, the left-hander's season ended early after suffering an elbow sprain in late July. Still, his 3.20 ERA and 27 strikeouts in six starts at Double-A was encouraging to see.
However, his success on the mound hasn't continued in 2024 at Triple-A Sacramento. Whisenhunt currently owns a 6.37 ERA in 10 starts and has allowed at least four earned runs in two of his last three outings. It has not been a great start to the season for the left-hander, but the potential is still there for him to exceed in the majors one day.
Carson Whisenhunt, making his Triple-A debut today, has retired 9 of first 10 batters with 6 K. He has 12 whiffs on 19 swings, including 7 of 7 on the changeup! pic.twitter.com/fqgKomE4kd

He has an elite changeup that MLB Pipeline grades as a 70, and they have him ranked No. 68 on the top 100 prospect list. Whisenhunt might be off to a slow start, but he is someone that fantasy managers should be looking to stash in dynasty formats right now. He could make his debut later this year -- assuming his stats improve.
