Bubba Chandler is a fantasy baseball waiver wire stash for Week 18 (2024). Target Bubba Chandler as a top prospect free-agent waiver wire pickup for fantasy baseball.
ANALYSIS: Since being drafted in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Pittsburgh Pirates' top prospect, Bubba Chandler, has shown his potential in the minors. In 2022, he finished with a 2.61 ERA in 14 appearances (11 starts) at rookie ball and Single-A. Then, last year, Chandler had a 4.54 ERA and 128 strikeouts across 25 starts at High-A and Double-A.
Now, MLB Pipeline's No. 51 overall prospect is pitching well at Double-A Altoona in 2024. The right-hander has a 3.53 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 16 appearances (14 starts) this season. Chandler also appears to be in a nice groove on the mound after he threw seven scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts back on June 21 and 7 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts on July 3.
Bubba Chandler picks up a strikeout in his scoreless inning of the All-Star Futures Game
As great as Chandler has been on the mound recently, though, it would be a surprise to see him make his major league debut this year. He is still at the Double-A level, and pitching isn't necessarily a need for the Pirates right now. However, fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor his status over the next few weeks. Especially if he is used a trade chip by the Pirates to acquire a hitter before the deadline.
