Will Brock Purdy play in Week 2 for fantasy football? Is Brock Purdy injured or hurt heading into Week 2 of 2025? Read the latest Brock Purdy injury report.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe/shoulder) played just one game in 2025 before suffering toe and shoulder injuries. The 49ers have a long history of constantly being decimated by injury issues, and this season, they already have three offensive starters who played in Week 1 affected by injury issues.
Purdy, tight end George Kittle (hamstring), and wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder) all are now in danger of missing time, with Kittle already having been placed on injured reserve. He'll miss the next four games, at minimum. Purdy and Jennings' situations are less clear.
It would obviously be a huge blow for San Francisco to not have its starting QB. His backup, Mac Jones, hasn't had a great NFL career and bounced around the league a bit as a backup before landing in his current spot. So, what's the status of Purdy's injuries? And will he play in Week 2?

Brock Purdy Fantasy Football Injury Update
A very recent update on Purdy didn't bring good news. Reports are that he's a "long shot" to play in Week 2 now because of his injuries. Additionally, it was reported that he could be facing a "multi-week" ailment, meaning he could miss even more time after next week.
#49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe, shoulder) is a "longshot" to play on Sunday vs. the #Saints, which means Mac Jones would start.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan tends to send his players out even when they're dealing with injury issues, so the news about Purdy isn't great, and we should treat it as such. If you have Purdy in fantasy leagues, you should prepare for him to miss at least two weeks, if not three. He hasn't been placed on injured reserve, though.
That would at least indicate that he's unlikely to miss four weeks. A tentative return date of Week 4 seems to be conservative, then. We don't have the details of what his specific injuries are, but it seems reasonable to guess he could be dealing with something in his throwing shoulder. So, he'll need time to heal up.
Is Brock Purdy Playing in Week 2?
It's highly unlikely at this point. It wouldn't make sense for the team to rush him back after Shanahan indicated that he's a long shot. This team would be very unlikely to make the playoffs without Purdy, especially with the other injuries it is dealing with.
“I think it’s a long shot.”

You can see Shanahan's comments on Purdy's injury above for yourself. Interestingly, Shanahan indicated that the toe seems to be a more pressing issue than his shoulder injury. He could have a fracture or break, or possibly turf toe, but we just don't know yet, if we'll ever know.
Brock Purdy Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 2
If he does play in Week 2, it might be hard for him to be fantasy-relevant. Obviously, it's much more likely that he doesn't take the field, but if he does, he'll probably be hobbled due to his ailments. San Francisco does have a pretty easy matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who struggled in Week 1, though.
One of my favorite things to do going back through film is to watch what happens when TEs or RBs try to block Demario Davis. Be ready for violence.

The Saints have solid personnel on defense, but the ineffectiveness of their offense could mean they're forced to be on the field far more than they're comfortable with. Humans tend to get tired the more they work their bodies, and there's no exception to this for NFL players.
Still, it's hard to trust starting Purdy in Week 2 if he does play. He won't have Kittle, his top tight end, and Jennings could be out, leaving just Ricky Pearsall healthy of the team's top-4 pass-catchers. Jennings could play through his injury, but it could be a struggle. Outside of deep Superflex/2QB leagues, I'd avoid starting Purdy in Week 2 if he takes the field for some reason.
