One and Done Selections - Farmers Insurance
Joe Nicely - Tony Finau
Alternate - Marc Leishman
Another Sunday and another failure for Tony Finau to close out a golf tournament. Last week’s AmEx was just the latest in a long string of disappointing Sundays for Finau and his backers, as he once again let a long-awaited second victory slip away.
I’m sure that Tony is frustrated with himself. I know that his fans sure are. Hell...I’m even mad at him and I love the guy. While I don’t doubt his talent, I’m, sadly, pretty sure that he lacks the killer instinct needed to be a prolific winner on the PGA Tour So, since all signs point to Tony Finau never actually being able to win a golf tournament, I’m naturally taking him as my One And Done pick this week.
A probably-questionable and borderline-masochistic decision on my part, but one I’m willing to live with in an attempt to get at least some Finau exposure on a week where I refuse to bet on him and prefer other players in DFS. If - and it’s a huge if - Tony is ever going to get a win, it’s going to be on a track like Torrey

Spencer Aguiar - Tony Finau
Alternate - Adam Scott
I went conservative the first two weeks with Webb Simpson and Abraham Ancer and will continue the trend with a Tony Finau selection at the Farmers Insurance Open. I am not opposed to the idea of rolling out Rory McIlroy if you are looking to take a massive swing for the fence early in the year, but I like the pace I am moving in this particular contest and believe Finau is the safest man for the job.
Nobody wants to admit that this is the case, but the American is going to be one of the most - if not the most - popular selections in contests of this nature. I know we all want to groan and complain about how Finau doesn't win, but the consensus early has been that the 31-year-old is going to finally find his form late on Sunday because of his history at Torrey Pines. I am not necessarily sure that is what ends up transpiring for the week, but the six top-25 results at the venue in his six tries should show that there might not be a better spot to take a chance on Finau turning the page.
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if everybody in this contest selected the big-hitter out of Utah, but I see no point in deviating away from my early-season plan quite yet. In a similar rhyme-scheme used by Joe at the U.S. Open when he took Finau: I love when Tony comes third. I love when Tony comes fourth. I love when Tony plays Torrey and tears up the North.
***Hey...at least I kept my write-up on Finau G-rated this time around. That is progress.

Josh Bennett - Bubba Watson

As our good friend Cecil Peters has coined, it’s the Driving Distance Open week, so among all the bombers possible to pick I’m going to go with the longest lefty. There’s really a ton of different ways to go this week with a lot of elite players with really good history, so I’m hoping I’ll be contrarian with this pick. We know that there are specific tournaments you play Bubba at, and among the handful of them to pick from, this is one of them. He rolled in a top 6 last year and has a win at this event under his belt as well. The last year or so he seems to have renewed his focus into his game, something that he’s mentioned before that he’s not always done, so it’s a good time to roll with him before he potentially falls off again. After a bad showing from my pick last week, we need a good week from Bubba to get back on track.

Andrew Putters - Marc Leishman
Alternate - Ryan Palmer
Mark is trending in the right direction with solid 24th & 4th place finishes in his last two events. He also has a great course history on this track along with driving accuracy not a must this week. The defending champ just needs to get that putter hot on the weekend and we should see a repeat winner. Ryan Palmer is also not someone you should sleep on this week. He also has great course history and seems to be lurking around the top 10 nearly every week. I would not be surprised if these two were both in the final couple of groups come Sunday.
