Cole Hamels Open To One-Year Deal
Cole Hamels, who wasn't offered a qualifying offer from the Cubs, said he's open to a one-year deal this winter and wouldn't mind returning to the Phillies if it's in the cards. The 35-year-old left-hander is a free agent for the first time in his career after the final year of his seven-year, $158 million deal. Hamels has prioritized signing a one-year deal with a team that has postseason aspirations. He went 7-7 with a 3.81 ERA in 27 starts for Chicago last year. He was much better in 17 starts before he went on the injured list in June with a strained left oblique, going 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA in 10 starts after his injury. Hamels can certainly be effective in the right matchups this late in his career, but he's certainly not the high-end fantasy commodity he once was. Going back to Philly and their hitting-friendly environment might not be the best place for his fantasy value, though.
