Latavius Murray 2019 Outlook: Overlooked Depth RB
New Orleans Saints running back Latavius Murray is set to take on the “Mark Ingram role” in the Saints offense in 2019, a role that has proven to be significant for fantasy owners the past two seasons. Murray had a successful run as a backup to the oft-injured Dalvin Cook during two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. In 2017, he had 216 carries and rushed for 842 yards (3.8 YPC) with eight touchdowns. In 2018, Murray tallied 140 carries for 578 yards (4.1 YPC) and six touchdowns. Nothing jumps off the page with the 29-year-old, but his career yards per carry average (4.1 yards) and nose for finding the end zone could pay off nicely in the explosive Saints offense next season. As evidenced by Mark Ingram’s successes alongside Kamara, the Saints offense allows for a second back to succeed and they’re envisioning Murray to be that guy. He is currently being drafted as RB37 (OVR109) in early drafts, behind unproven backs in uncertain roles such as Miles Sanders, Darrell Henderson, and Rashaad Penny. You know what Murray’s role will be, and there is potential for massive upside in the event that Kamara gets hurt. Target him as an RB3 ahead of Sanders and Henderson, around the OVR100 range.
