Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Scott Darling won't be available for the team in the season opener on Thursday against Columbus. Furthermore, he's set to miss at least a couple of weeks according to head coach Rod Brind'Amour after picking up a lower-body injury near the end of preseason. Petr Mrazek will likely be the Canes starter against the Jackets, although Carolina added Curtis McElhinney to the mix as well by picking him off the waivers. Mrazek, who signed a one-year deal during the offseason, had a 2.66 goals-against average, a .911 save percentage and 14 shutouts over six seasons with Detroit and Philadelphia, posting a 78-64-23 record in 183 games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
