David Bednar 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Just One of the Best Closers Available
David Bednar was traded from Pittsburgh to the Bronx last season, but he still dominated with a 2.30 ERA, 2.70 xFIP, 2.87 xERA, and 27 saves over 62 ⅔ innings pitched. Fantasy managers expect saves and strikeouts from closers, and Bednar delivers both. His 34.3 K% and 7.6 BB% were excellent in 2025, and Bednar has the stuff for a repeat. His fastball was very good with a 10.6 SwStr% and 55.8 Zone%. His curve was used as a better fastball with a 14 SwStr% and 52.8 Zone%. When Bednar gets ahead, his splitter is an ideal put-away pitch with a 22.4 SwStr%, 45.8 Zone%, and 46.8 percent chase rate. The Yankees project as a strong team, so they should have plenty of save opportunities. Top setup guys Camilo Doval (12.6 BB% in 2025) and Fernando Cruz (12 BB%) walk too many guys to seriously challenge Bednar for the ninth, giving the 31-year-old job security rarely seen in today's game. Bednar represents solid value at his ADP of 59.32.
