Time to Drop Jameson Williams? Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

Jameson Williams - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

Should I drop Jameson Williams for fantasy football Week 8? Is Jameson Williams a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

There exists a class of player that is only useful in best ball. If you're not familiar with that, best ball is a fantasy football format in which your starting lineup is automatically determined at the end of each week by the optimal lineup.

That means you want players who have boom games but don't care if they get blanked in others. This is simply not the case in redraft, where you need consistent production, and dud games can lose you your week and knock you out of the fantasy playoffs.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has been dreadful to have on rosters this season -- he's the definition of boom-or-bust, with many more bust games than boom games. But should you drop him?

Should I Drop Jameson Williams in Fantasy Football?

This is a hard question to answer, and it depends on your league size. If you're in a 10-team league, it might be worth it. Having held on to him this long didn't help, but maybe there are better options moving forward. But it presents an interesting dilemma.

Obviously, if Lions WR1 Amon-Ra St. Brown were to be injured, Williams would immediately be a must-start from that point forward until ARSB returned. But Williams has been so irredeemably bad in most of his games that it's actually a massive detriment to your fantasy team to start him.

"Jamo" is the definition of a roster clogger. He's a player that has upside, but most of the time is so terrible that you're scared to start him. But you're scared to drop him, too, because he could be a fantasy stud if he were just more consistent.

The Lions offense looks different this year. Instead of scheming up looks for Williams, they're relying heavily on St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta, and as usual, running the ball heavily. Jamo is easily the odd man out here.

If you're in 12-team PPR leagues, it's a hard decision, but I'd say you should let him go if you have a shallow bench. There are better speculative players to take chances on, and not being able to churn through them and find an eventual starter or replacement player is bad.

Who Should I Pick Up for Fantasy Football?

Atlanta Falcons WR Darnell Mooney led his team in receiving yards in Week 7 in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Against a tough defense, he looked like the best receiver on the team, and made multiple splash plays. He's also posted nearly identical yardage to WR Drake London, his teammate, when both share the field and are healthy.

Though many view London as the dominant, alpha WR1, that just isn't the case when Mooney is on the field. If current starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. improves his play, or if he's benched for Kirk Cousins and subsequently outperformed, picking up Mooney could go a long way to helping your team out.

Also, you might be in a league where someone dropped Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter out of frustration. Hunter was easily the Jags most productive WR last week, scoring over 24 PPR fantasy points, and appears to have a shot at taking over the WR1 job because of the struggles of Brian Thomas Jr.

Hunter is proving that he can be a two-way player in the NFL and succeed at both positions.
