ANALYSIS: Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen looked like his former self in his return to his longtime club. In Week 1, Allen led the Chargers in targets (10) and was able to catch seven receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown. Even though fellow wideouts Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston also enjoyed productive games, Allen appears to have a lead role in this offense.
In 2024, Allen spent his only season away from the Chargers and was one of the few bright spots in a struggling Chicago offense. Through 15 games, he caught 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns.
However, in 2023, playing alongside Justin Herbert, Allen enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career as he caught 108 passes for an impressive 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns. This was a season-high total of receptions, and he fell just short of the season-high 1,393 yards he tallied during the 2017 campaign.
Despite the potential for target competition, Allen will likely remain a safety valve for Herbert in the middle of the field, which will provide him a high floor in all fantasy formats heading into a Week 2 clash against the Raiders. In PPR leagues, Allen could hold WR2 value, especially if he continues to see nearly double-digit targets each week.
