Kerry Carpenter Activated and Starting on Sunday
Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and optioned infielder Trey Sweeney to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Carpenter is starting in right field and batting third in his return for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Max Scherzer. Now that the 27-year-old is back from a three-week stay on the injured list due to a strained right hamstring, he should play regularly for the Tigers in the outfield or at designated hitter. The left-handed hitter will return to a .257/.285/.494 slash line with 16 home runs, 32 RBI, 40 runs and one stolen base for the first-place Tigers. Carpenter has been injury-prone and has his issues against left-handed pitchers, but there's no disputing his power or the fact that he hits the ball pretty hard when he makes contact.
